Creamy Ranch Broccoli Slaw is perfect for summer potlucks, last minute grill-outs and holiday gatherings. Or you can serve it up as a quick & easy side dish to go along with really any meal.
I have been making this Creamy Ranch Broccoli Slaw well before this blog even existed. It’s a recipe my mom and I have been making for years, although I’ve made a few changes over the course of time to make it more ‘real food’ friendly. The salad is incredibly easy to make and always a favorite any time we bring it to a gathering with friends and/or family. Crisp broccoli slaw, toasted almonds, tart dried cranberries and creamy ranch dressing come together to create something totally delicious.
While the recipe is perfect when followed to a ‘T,’ it’s also very versatile in that you can make it your own with what you have on hand or what sounds best to you. I’ll share some examples of swaps below. In addition, I love that this salad takes less than 10 minutes to throw together and the only chopping involved is dicing the red onion, which I do at the same time I toast the almonds (#multitasker). Creamy Ranch Broccoli Slaw is a true winner and I have a feeling it will soon become a go-to recipe of yours, too after you give it a try!
Made simply with Tessemae’s Classic Ranch Dressing.
While this salad can be made with any creamy style dressing, if you’ve been a reader of this blog for quite sometime, you’ve likely gathered that we’re huge fans of Tessemae’s. I absolutely love using Tessemae’s Classic Ranch Dressing in this recipe. Not only is the flavor and creamy factor of this dressing on point, but it’s also organic and made with real food ingredients. Let’s compare Tessemae’s Classic Ranch ingredients with another store-purchased ranch dressing…
Tessemae’s Classic Ranch Dressing ingredients: *HIGH OLEIC SUNFLOWER OIL, *LEMON JUICE, *CAGE FREE SALTED EGG YOLKS (*CAGE FREE EGG YOLKS, SALT), WATER, *MUSTARD (*VINEGAR, WATER, *MUSTARD SEEDS, SALT, * SPICES), *DISTILLED VINEGAR, *ONION POWDER, *BLACK PEPPER, *DRIED MINCED ONION, *GARLIC POWDER, SEA SALT, *EGG, *SPICES, *ROSEMARY EXTRACT.
The * signifies organic.
Another store-purchased ranch dressing: Vegetable oil (soybean and/or canola), water, egg yolk, sugar, salt, cultured nonfat buttermilk, natural flavors (soy), less than 1% of: spices (mustard), dried garlic, dried onion, vinegar, phosphoric acid, xanthan gum, modified food starch, monosodium glutamate (msg), artificial flavors, disodium phosphate, sorbic acid and calcium disodium edta as preservatives, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate
Big difference in ingredients, huh? I think I’ll stick with Tessemae’s!
This is a good reminder to always take a look at the ingredients when purchasing packaged food items because as shown above, it’s clear that not all packaged foods are created equal! While I’m not perfect by any means, I do my best when it comes to purchasing packaged food items by taking a look at the ingredients before tossing it into my cart. And sure, I could make my own dressing, and oftentimes do, however it’s also nice to have a convenient option on hand that I feel good about for when time is not in my favor.
Change it up with what you’ve got on hand.
As mentioned above, you can make this slaw your very own with what you have on hand or what sounds best to you. Here are a few simple swap suggestions:
- Swap cabbage for the broccoli slaw.
- Swap any nut or seed of choice for the slivered almonds. Use seeds for nut-free.
- Swap raisins or chopped dates for the dried cranberries.
- Swap Caesar dressing or Green Goddess, for the ranch.
- Add additional veggies you have kickin’ around in your fridge.
- Add fresh herbs to change up the flavor profile.
- Add feta cheese or crumbled goat cheese.
- Don’t care for red onion, simply omit them.
The options are truly endless with this recipe. You can follow the recipe to a ‘T’ or you can be your own recipe developer and use the recipe as a guideline!
This salad is made with hearty enough ingredients that you can enjoy the leftovers (if there are any) in the days to come.
Leftovers for the win! Because this Creamy Ranch Broccoli Slaw is made with heartier ingredients, unlike a lettuce salad for example, this recipe makes for great leftovers. I love making a big salad bowl with greens and chicken for a quick lunch and then adding a spoonful or two of this slaw to the bowl. It’s quite delicious and takes all of 5 minutes to throw together – assuming you have the chicken already cooked. Creamy Ranch Broccoli Slaw is a perfect recipe to add to your weekend meal prep menu rotation!

Where do you find broccoli slaw?
Broccoli slaw can be found in the produce section of most grocery stores. If you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, that’s a great place to get it.
Used this with packaged Cole slaw, ranch dressing, added celery. Used the feta cheese add suggestion and mmmm. Served over buffalo instant pot chicken on toasted ciabatta. MMMMM
Thank you!
