I’ve found the perfect, no-fail way to make the best air fryer chicken wings – and it’s an incredibly easy recipe to follow! By using my air fryer method, I’m able to make super crispy wings just like I’d get at a restaurant (but without the extra oil and greasiness). One of the best parts? The cleanup afterward is easy, and I can feed a big group of family and friends with pretty minimal effort. I’ll eat the wings as they are, right out of the air fryer, or toss them in my favorite wing sauce or dry rub. Either way, these wings are always a favorite appetizer of mine.
Recipe Highlights
- You don’t need much: This recipe requires just 3 ingredients (chicken wings and 2 essential pantry staples).
- Mastered technique: Uses the best air fryer temperature and time for perfectly cooked and crispy wings every time.
- Crispy without the frying oil: The wings come out just as if they had been fried, only much lighter and less oily than wings commonly found at restaurants.
- Great for parties: Can make large batches of chicken wings quickly for events and parties.
Ingredients To Make Air Fryer Chicken Wings
- Chicken wings – I always make sure to buy quality poultry. Personally, I love the chicken wings from ButcherBox
- Baking powder – This is the secret ingredient to getting the best chicken wings that are crispy and golden brown
- Salt – Use fine salt for this specific recipe
Find the ingredient list with exact measurements in the recipe card below.
Equipment Needed
- Air Fryer – I love my Instant Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryer. It’s from the makers of Instant Pot, and it’s the air fryer my whole work team uses and loves! The double chambers create extra room, so I can air fry a complete meal at once or a bigger serving than with most other air fryers
- Large bowl – For tossing the wings with the baking powder and salt. I use the same bowl, cleaned out, to toss the wings with sauce or a dry rub after air frying
- Pair of tongs or a fork – For turning the wings over in the air fryer
No Air Fryer? No Problem!
Some of my friends and family absolutely love this wing recipe of mine but don’t have an air fryer. The good news is, we also have an oven-baked wings version, that also results in delicious, crispy wings right out of the oven.
How To Serve These Wings
I typically serve these wings as an appetizer at:
- TV watch parties and annually for the Super Bowl
- Potlucks
- Birthday parties
- Friday night friend and family gatherings
I set out some fresh carrots, celery sticks, pepper strips, and a few dipping sauces to go with the wings. For sauces, I like blue cheese dressing, Homemade Ranch Dressing (or Paleo Ranch Dressing as a dairy-free option), and hot sauce as the main dipping options.
Pair With Homemade Buffalo Sauce
In less than 10 minutes, I can make a delicious, flavor-forward buffalo sauce that perfectly pairs with these chicken wings. The recipe is Whole30-friendly, Paleo, and gluten-free. I also use this sauce in recipes that call for buffalo sauce or put it on top of shredded chicken, eggs, or roasted veggies.
The Best Way To Store And Reheat
If I have any chicken wings left over and wish to save them, I’ll store them in one of my airtight meal prep containers in the refrigerator. The wings will last up to 3 days in the fridge. To reheat the wings, I remove them from the fridge and set them at room temperature for 10-15 minutes. Then I preheat my air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. After the air fryer has preheated, I transfer the wings into the air fryer basket. Then I air fry them for about 5 minutes or until they are heated through.
Frequently Asked Questions
If the wings don’t turn out crispy, it could be due to a few factors:
– There were too many wings in the air fryer at once.
– The wings weren’t patted dry before cooking.
– The wings were cooked at too low of a temperature.
I love this dry rub on so many things, including my chicken wings when they come right out of the air fryer. It’s reminiscent of the Buffalo Wild Wings Dry Rub, which my husband and I love.
1. Mix the follow in a small bowl: ½ teaspoon dried thyme, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ¼ teaspoon fine salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper, and ¼ teaspoon dried ground sage
2. Toss the chicken wings with the dry rub after they come out of the air fryer.

Air Fryer Chicken Wings Recipe
These crispy air fryer wings are perfect for game days, potlucks, and friend and family get-togethers. They’re super simple to make and always a favorite party snack.
Ingredients
- 3 lbs chicken wings or about 36 pieces (flats and/or drummies), thaw if frozen
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
OPTIONAL: After they are air fried, you can eat the wings plain or toss them with any favorite sauce, such as buffalo sauce, BBQ sauce, a dry rub, or a simple mix of minced garlic and grated Parmesan cheese.
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400℉.
- Spread the wings out on paper towels and pat dry.
- Place the wings in a large bowl and toss with the baking powder and salt.
- Working in batches, place the wings in an even, single layer in the preheated air fryer basket. Note: I typically cook 12-15 wings at a time, but this will depend on the size of your air fryer. Don’t overcrowd the wings in the basket.
- Air fry for 10 minutes.
- After the 10 minutes, using a pair of tongs or a fork, turn over each wing in the air fryer basket. Close the air fryer and fry for another 8 minutes or until crispy and lightly golden brown.
- Remove cooked wings from the air fryer and place in a bowl to toss with buffalo sauce or any desired sauce or dry rub. I recommend starting with ¼ cup sauce and adding more as needed.
- Repeat to make more batches until all wings are cooked.

Notes
Serve with dipping sauces and veggies of your choice. I always opt for celery sticks, carrots, pepper slices, and a Homemade Buffalo Wing Sauce or Homemade Ranch.

Absolutely delicious!!
Everything I wanted!!
I usually cook them in oven @ 250degrees F and then crank them up to 425 or so after 30 minutes. This is quicker, but it takes more time because I can cook 2 pans in oven and have to do batches in air fryer ( and I just gotta eat a few each time I take a batch out lol)

You’re certainly right about that! We love this less-greasy method for cooking chicken wings, especially when we’re serving each batch with a different rub or sauce as we go – it’s definitely a stand-up kind of meal 🙂
