As a team of dietitians, we’ve been giving our kids Hiya multivitamins for more than two years now and have written about our experience with and opinions of Hiya vitamins. And a little over one year ago, we also started giving our kids Hiya Daily Greens + Superfoods, a greens powder formulated just for kids. Since we take an adults greens powder ourselves, we were intrigued to learn more about what makes Hiya Daily Greens just right for little ones. It contains 55+ whole-food sourced ingredients to support growth, digestion, and brain health in kids ages 2+. We’ll share our experience using it, how it tastes, how much it costs, and the types of kids who would be good candidates for nutritional support like this.

Pros And Cons
Think of Hiya greens powder as chocolate milk with benefits. Here’s a quick glance at our list of pros and cons after using this greens powder with our own kids at home.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Kids like it! In fact, our young kids just think they’re drinking chocolate milk and have no idea it’s made with so many greens, grains, fruits, and veggies. | The cost can feel high, at almost $2/serving, especially if there are multiple kids who take it daily. It is about mid-range in price among other greens powders for kids. |
| Solid formulation. This pediatrician-formulated, dietitian-approved greens powder is formulated just for kids and provides key nutrients they need for brain and body growth, including vitamin D, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. | Settles after sitting. If your kids are extra slow drinkers, the greens powder will settle at the bottom of the milk glass after a few hours in the fridge. But I actually appreciate this, as it signifies the lack of a lot of extra emulsifiers, and it’s easy to mix it again. |
| Easy to drink. A scoop of the powder blends or shakes easily into milk (or non-dairy milk) for a supplement that kids drink just like they would drink chocolate milk. | Lingering sweetness for some. At first, my oldest son thought the taste was too sweet, but now I mix a scoop into a larger (10-12 ounce) glass of milk for him, and he likes it that way. For those sensitive to stevia, the sweetness can linger in the mouth a little bit. |
| No dyes or gummies. We appreciate that this supplement for kids does not come in gummy form. It’s a natural whole-food blend of 55+ nutritious ingredients mixed with cocoa powder, vanilla powder, coconut oil powder, and oat creamer powder. | |
| Zero sugar. There is no sugar or artificial sweeteners in this blend. It’s sweetened only with stevia for a pleasant taste that our kids like. Keep in mind that dairy milk contains natural sugar from lactose, so when this greens powder is added to milk, the lactose is really the only sugar they’re getting. | |
| Third party tested. Hiya products undergo rigorous third-party testing for heavy metals, microbials, and other contaminants to ensure compliance with the highest safety standards, including California’s Proposition 65. It is also Clean Label Project Certified. | |
| Reusable packaging. We love that Hiya is ditching the plastic that is so prevalent in supplements. Your first order of the greens powder comes with a reusable canister. The monthly powder refills come in a sealed pouch. |

What Does It Taste Like?
If your first thought is, there’s no way in the world my picky eater would drink a greens powder, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn that Hiya Daily Greens is a greens powder disguised as chocolate milk. It’s pretty genius, really. When we stir a scoop of the powder into milk, it reminds us of Nesquick we used as kids, only 100x better. Our kids say it tastes just like chocolate milk. When we taste it, we don’t notice any flavor of greens or any bitterness. Truly, it tastes a lot like drinking chocolate milk made from powder and lightly sweetened with stevia. It’s a very enjoyable experience, and we can see why our kids like it.
Personally, we don’t give our little kids a lot of beverages other than milk and water, so it’s nice to be able to offer them something that feels special while still providing lots of great nutrition.

Nutritional Benefits: What’s In It
The whole-food sourced ingredients in Hiya Kids Daily Greens + Superfoods powder have been shown to support kids’ brain development, energy levels, digestion, and immunity. The main ingredients are:
- essential nutrients: Vitamin D, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium
- four whole-food blends:
- kid’s essential greens blend: includes barley grass powder, kale powder, alfalfa grass powder, and more for antioxidant and mineral benefits
- kid’s digestion blend: made from organic millet, amaranth, apple pomace, buckwheat, quinoa, and more for fiber and digestive benefits
- kid’s superfood blend: made from organic acai, banana, cranberry, mango, pineapple and more for vitamin and antioxidant benefits
- kid’s core development: aquamarine algae and vitamin D2 mushrooms for essential vitamin and mineral benefits
- other ingredients: cocoa powder, organic Madagascar vanilla, coconut oil powder, oat creamer powder, xanthan gum, stevia leaf extract, and sea salt for flavor and solubility
It is also gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan, non-GMO, and free of eggs, fish, and nuts, though it contains coconut.

Who Is It For?
Kids as young as two years old can take Hiya Daily Greens, which is the age when my youngest started taking it. For kids who need additional support (extra picky eaters with low intake of a variety of foods) can take up to two scoops per day. And for kids who just need some support – like our own – it’s fine to drink it a few times a week.
It’s common for kids’ diets to fluctuate, some days being ravenous and insatiable with foods and snacks, and other days barely putting a single bite to their lips. We appreciate having a trusted option like Hiya Daily Greens to help fill the gaps, especially on days when our kids are on the picky side or when it seems like they haven’t touched a veggie in days.
Certainly, not every kid needs to take a nutritional greens powder. We think Hiya greens powder is a good choice for:
- Picky eaters who have a low amount or low variety of food intake, especially veggies
- Kids who may have nutritional gaps due to varied food intake each day
- Kids with special diet restrictions

How To Take It
Most often, we serve the greens powder mixed into a glass of milk, somewhere between 6 and 12 ounces of milk, depending on our kids’ ages (less for little ones, more for older kids). We appreciate that we can use any favorite milk, such as dairy milk, almond milk, oat milk, or others.
It works best to shake or blend the green powder with milk rather than stirring it with a spoon in order to help it dissolve quickly. You can stir the greens powder into oatmeal, overnight oats, or yogurt. We’ve heard that it can also be added to baked goods or energy balls, though we have yet to try that.

Pricing + How It Works
Like Hiya’s other products, the powder comes in a pouch and stores in a refillable canister that you get with your first order. After the first month, a refill pouch of the greens powder arrives every 30 days. It’s easy to manage your subscription online and pause, skip, or cancel any time without fees or a long-term commitment.
Here’s how the pricing compares to other greens powders for kids:

You also select how many kids are in your household (from 1 to 5) who would each need their own monthly refill.
The original shipment contains your starter kit, which includes the first month’s worth of greens powder (30 servings) and a refillable canister. You also get two pages of stickers so each child can personalize their green container (we love this cute feature, and our kids do, too!). The auto shipment of 30 refill servings arrives in a small non-plastic pouch once per month.
Shipping is always free, and the terms are great! You can pause or cancel at any time.
- 1st order: Refillable canister with stickers, scoop, and 1 month’s supply (30 servings)
