Make your New Years Day brunch menu complete with this sparkling Pomegranate Kombucha Mimosa!
Whether you’re hosting a big New Years Day brunch or you’re laying low with your family, this kombucha mimosa will make for a delightful and delicious sipper. New Years Day just so happens to be the day that my family gets together to celebrate Christmas and the New Year all in one. We always start the celebration off with a tasty brunch that includes a variety of frittatas, pancakes, waffles, breakfast meats etc. – and what’s a brunch without a mimosa?! Having mimosas with brunch is a world-wide tradition that goes way back to the early 1900’s. I don’t know about you, but I’m a fan of this tradition!
When I discovered that LIVE Beverages made an orange flavored Kombucha, I was instantly inspired to create this Pomegranate Kombucha Mimosa recipe that I could serve at my family’s New Years day brunch, and of course with you too!
But before I share the recipe, I want to answer this one question….
Mimosa’s for brunch! But why?
I’ve often wondered who the genius was that introduced the famous and amazingly delicious mimosa to the world and the idea of having it with brunch. I never really took the time to do the research, until now.
Here’s what I found:
- First of all, the British are the ones to thank for the traditional Sunday Brunch but the French are the ones who invented the mimosa.
- In 1925 the first Mimosa was served at The Ritz Hotel in Paris and was invented by a bartender named Frank Meier. The Mimosa recipe is simply 1 part champagne to 2 parts freshly squeezed orange juice (or juice of choice).
-
If you prefer your mimosa to be less sweet (like me), you may be more of the Buck’s Fizz type. I know, I’ve never heard of this cocktail either. It’s like a mimosa only it’s made with 2 parts champagne and 1 part freshly squeezed orange juice. This drink was invented in 1921 by a London bartender who worked at the London Buck’s Club. His motive to create this drink was so that club members could have an excuse for drinking alcohol before the lunch hour…..clever, huh?!
- The name Mimosa came from its soft orange color which resembles the foliage found on Acacia dealbata, also known as the Mimosa plant.
Pretty interesting stuff! Probably more than you even wanted to know about Mimosa’s 😉

can you make without alcohol
Jessica Beacom says
You could substitute a non-alcoholic sparkling wine or ‘prosecco’ such as Gruvi or another brand to make this without alcohol.
